Do I qualify

Eligible to Reclaim Care Home Fees

If you have a serious long term health condition, you may qualify for NHS Continuing Healthcare to meet the costs of your healthcare needs. This includes the cost of residential and nursing home fees if your care needs necessitate that you live in a nursing or care home, or even the costs accrued if you are paying for nursing care at home.

Those with long-term healthcare needs caused by:

  • Alzheimer's disease
  • Dementia
  • Stroke
  • Severe mental or physical disability
  • Altered states of consciousness
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Behavioural problems
  • Difficulty with recognising things or people
  • Psychological and emotional needs
  • Communication problems
  • Mobility problems
  • Nutritional problems through inability to feed or cook
  • Incontinence
  • Sufferers of skin conditions such as open wounds, tissue viability and pressure ulcers
  • Drug therapies and medication requiring monitoring for effective pain control

could be entitled to care home funding from the NHS. Primary care trusts (PCTs) have assessed thousands of people with these conditions and denied them funding, resulting in many individuals and families having to pay nursing home fees for themselves or their relatives.

If you live in a nursing home, care home or receive nursing care in your home because of your health or nursing care requirements, you could be entitled to have your fees paid.
